Art at Church Langley Primary School
Since COVID-19 is restricting access to our super school, we have decided to use our website to share some aspects of the children’s learning with parents and our wider community – starting with art! We have included some developmental work, which reflects progressive steps the children have worked through whilst developing their artistic skills, as well some final masterpieces.

In Reception, the children have been developing their printing and cutting skills to create an underwater collage and paper plate animals in response to reading a non-fiction text about Sealife. After reading the story ?Lost and Found?, some of the children used a range of paper to create a penguin scene. In addition, the children have produced sunflowers by printing with natural objects.

In Year 1, the children have been developing their sculpture skills by bending, folding and twisting paper to create 3D sculptures. In addition, they have made different clay flowers by rolling, twisting and coiling the clay.

In Year 2, the children have been learning about minibeasts and micro-habitats. They have pinched, rolled, twisted and joined clay together to create 3D sculptures of different minibeasts that can be found in the school environment.

In Year 4, the children have been developing their painting skills using acrylic paint to add texture. They explored a range of techniques ? wet on wet, scumbling, stippling and scraping before creating a simple beach scene. Some of the children created a painting of a tree frog by following a step-by-step drawing guide before using watercolours to blend and layer colour.

In Year 2, the children have painted their self-portraits in response to the poem ‘Smile’. During Multicultural Week, they learned about the Spanish artist Picasco and followed step-by-step instructions to draw and colour a portrait in the cubist style. In addition, they continued to develop their drawing skills by following step-by-step instructions to draw the character Flat Stanley.

In Year 5, the children have been developing their drawing skills by sketching characters from a range of novels in the style of Quentin Blake.
