Art In Year 1 (2023-2024)

In Year 1, the children have been learning about the Italian artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo who was known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of objects such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish and books. The children cut out images of fruits and vegetables and stuck them in position to create their own portraits. During Multicultural Week, the children were developing their drawing skills by following step-by-step instructions to sketch African animals in preparation for creating African animal silhouettes which were painted onto a brusho background. Through the topic of Alice in Wonderland, the children learned about warm and cold colours and matched the relevant colours to the characters’ personalities. They dabbed their chosen colours around a silhouette of the character.
