Important Information for Wednesday 14th December 2022
Posted On: 13 December 2022
Dear Parents,
Thank you for all bringing your children on time today and for enabling them to attend school – it was lovely to welcome them back. We have successfully cleared many more pathways within the school site today and will be able to revert to our normal entry (and exit) arrangements tomorrow using all gates and doorways (as long as we are able to unlock the Key Stage 2 gate).
Today has been an incredibly eventful, and somewhat challenging, day at school. No sooner had we got all the children in and settled, with ten minutes to go before our Year 1 pupils were set to perform their ‘Nativity’, than we experienced a partial power failure. As a result, the first performance of the Nativity went ahead without music (the children did an incredible job of singing acapella – particularly in view of how young they are) and we had to shuffle children around between classes that had heating and lighting.
As always, the children rose to the challenges presented to them and staff pulled together brilliantly as a team to make the best of a ‘sticky situation’. The problem with the power was external, an issue with the National grid, and all but 12 properties – one of which is Church Langley Primary School! – have had their power reinstated. Sadly, we are still operating on 75% power, although an electrician from the grid will be at school by 7.30 a.m. in the morning.
With this in mind, I think it wise to offer all children the opportunity to come to school tomorrow in their warm winter clothes, with layers that can be removed if it gets too hot, rather than their school uniform. Please dress for warmth rather than fashion, trend or prettiness! Flimsy dresses, t-shirts, and thin skirts and shirts are not the order of the day – think layers, woollies, tights, fleeces, thick jogging bottoms, etc. Layers are great as they trap the warmth but can be removed when full power has been restored.
We are very keen to keep the children in school as they have all the Christmas festivities to enjoy. It is still not too late to pay for Christmas dinner (£3.00 per child in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6) which will be tomorrow for Years 3 and 4; Thursday for Years 5 and 6 and Friday for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Please send the money into school in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s full name and the title ‘Christmas Dinner’. Games and prizes have been arranged and we look forward to enabling all children to participate in some festive frolics over the next few days.
Please remember that all children in Reception, Years 1, 2, 5 and 6 will need a packed lunch tomorrow. Similarly, all children in Reception, Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 will need a packed lunch on Thursday and all Key Stage 2 children will need a packed lunch on Friday.
Year 2 are very excited to perform their production of ‘The Landlord’s Cat’ to parents and family members of Thursday, according to the time stated on the tickets you have already received.
So in summary, the children do not need to wear their school uniform tomorrow just warm winter clothes with lots of layers. It would also be a great idea for those children who have wellies to wear them to school tomorrow: thank you.
We plan to exit school at the usual times for all year groups. Thank you for your ongoing support, assistance and understanding over these past couple of days, it is much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Stacey Ward
