Sitting Volleyball - Runners-Up in the County Finals
Posted On: 01 March 2022
Whilst the rest of the school got to 'enjoy' a day at home because of an emergency closure, 9 children from Year 5 travelled across the county to take part in the County Finals for Sitting Volleyball and New-Age Kurling.
Both teams played impressively throughout their respective events, the Kurling team won both opening matches to put them into the finals group. Unfortunately after a really long wait, they narrowly missed out on a medal by one point - having won one, drawn one and lost one in the fianls group. The boys finished 4th place in the County and are already looking forward to defending their Harlow trophy next year and then going one better to get a placed finish. Despite the narrow defeats, the boys recieved many comments for their great manners, sportsmanship and the way they managed themselves throughout each game.
The 6 children who formed the Sitting Volleyball team perfromed an amazing 'smash and grab' on the County Finals. Invited late, due a previous drop-out, the children hadn't played the game until the actual County Finals. They found it tough to start with, losing the opening 3 matches as they struggled to adjust to the weight of pass/smash required. However, after a quick 'pep-talk' from Mr Stacey, the team went on an amazing run, losing only once in the next 9 games. The team were thrilled to recieve Silver medals from the event organiser, Gill Newlyn.
Well done to all 9 athletes!
